With larger scale affordable housing projects in focus, one landlord offers different idea – WLOS
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Two Asheville apartment rental projects meant to have around 100 units going for less than $800, and some as low as $500, have passed the city’s Technical Review Committee.
This brings them one step closer to breaking ground. It may be more than a year before either opens, but the units would be at price points working class residents continue to press for amid record rent prices and little inventory under $1,200 a month.
Right now, studies show a median one-bedroom apartment in Asheville goes for about $1,300 a month and a two-bedroom is at a median price of about $1,700. But those prices don’t necessarily reflect the averages for rentals in Asheville’s newer complexes that can go for upwards of $1,500 for a one-bedroom and more than $2,200 for a two-bedroom. A one-bedroom unit at The Patton, a complex that opened several years ago, goes for $1,639 a month, with two-bedrooms going for between $2,200-$2,600. No two-bedrooms are currently vacant.
