Jollof rice is today’s featured Google Doodle so let’s look at why the quintessential West African dish is being celebrated.
A Google Doodle is a special but temporary version of the Google logo on the site’s homepage that’s used to commemorate holidays, events and notable figures from history. From Frida Kahlo to Stephen Hawking, some amazing people have been remembered as a Doodle but today – November 4, 2022 – it’s all about jollof rice.

Jollof rice is being celebrated as a Google Doodle today. In the animation, the West African dish is made showing the ingredients – tomatoes, onions, peppers, regional spices and rice – being mixed together to create a delicious-looking one-pot meal.
Nigeria-based guest artist Haneefah Adam created the artwork for the doodle, while Senegalese jazz musician Hervé Samb wrote the soundtrack.
Haneefah said: “I was very excited. It was a big deal and a wonderful opportunity to have my work on the Google homepage.”
