With this year’s Wimbledon wrapping up this weekend, there is another newsworthy project coming out of the London sports scene that has the potential to help not only tennis players but other athletes as well.
The Lawn Tennis Association, which is the British governing body for tennis and ultimately responsible for Wimbledon, recently did a study about Internet search bias as it relates to sport. The results were overwhelming, if not necessarily surprising.
The goal of this project is linear:
“To boost the visibility of women’s sport by removing the inherent gender bias that exists within the results people see in search engine results about sport.”
This project is admirable and anyone reading about it should be pretty fired up about how deeply manipulative these companies that run our search engines are – and, yes, we are looking at you, Google.
