After a bruising battle, State Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez (D-Cicero) looks set to be elected the next chair of the Democratic Party of Illinois after Gov. J.B. Pritzker backed her over current chair U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly. Kelly, the first Black woman elected to chair the state party, dropped out of the contest on Friday. Hernandez will be the first Latina elected to lead the state party.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot signs an executive order to protect women and girls coming to the city to seek reproductive healthcare, including abortion. The order prohibits all city departments, including the Chicago Police Department, from cooperating with other states seeking to investigate or punish people coming to Chicago for reproductive care.
