COVID-19 underscored the importance of digital technologies to continue operating during the pandemic-related lockdowns and accelerated the adoption of digital technology across the world.

Given this context, in 2020, the Compete Caribbean Partnership Facility – a multi-donor, private sector development program financed by the Inter-American Development Bank, the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Caribbean Development Bank, and the Government of Canada – launched a pilot program to assist Caribbean businesses to adopt technology that can make them more competitive in their sectors. This program, called the “Caribbean Technology Extension Services”, was rolled out across 13 Caribbean countries to companies in the agro-processing, manufacturing and tourism sectors, which are the most important economic sectors in the Caribbean.
