Thane: Need blood? Cyber leeches dupe patients’ kin, warn cops – Times of India

THANE: A blood bank service operating in Thane fell prey to online fraudsters who connected with unsuspecting customers online claiming to represent the blood bank and sought advance payment to book a blood bag in an emergency.
A police said that the fraudsters had created a fake identity of the blood bank on an online search engine and used their personal numbers. When anyone in need of blood called, they insisted on paying advance and booking the blood and sent a web link to the gullible customers for payments, said an official.
When people clicked on the link, they were asked for the password of their UPI accounts which later got drained out, states the complaint.
A cyber expert said that neither do most blood banks do not accept any advance payments nor do they transact online.
