State offers winter hikes – Tiffin Advertiser Tribune

SANDUSKY — Taking a positive approach to the winter and cold weather, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is inviting Ohioans to go on winter hikes and see what natural areas look like this time of year.

“Winter in the Buckeye State is truly magical with frozen waterfalls and snow-covered canopies,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “Ohio’s winter weather shouldn’t prevent anyone from making great memories by spending time on a hike. So, grab your gear and join our naturalists for a few treks this winter.”

A number of the winter hikes aren’t far from Sandusky. The “Events Page” at the ODNR website (ohiodnr.gov) has a search engine; choose “Winter Hike” in the “Event type” area.

Winter hikes are scheduled on Thursday, Jan. 19, at both Marblehead Lighthouse and East Harbor State Park, both in Ottawa County.

Events are listed at the same two locations for Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, and for those willing to drive a bit further, events are given for locations such as Maumee Bay and…
