Search in ocean near Vancouver continues for missing boater – North Shore News

A search continues in English Bay after an unoccupied rental boat was found Wednesday, June 8.

Coast Guard vessels and a military helicopter are continuing their search after a boat rented in Vancouver was found near Point Atkinson in West Vancouver. It was unmanned, with the keys still in the ignition and the engine on, says Sub-Lieutenant Wilson Ho of the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, which is co-ordinating search efforts.

“It was a 17-foot fibreglass rental boat,” he adds.

The rental agency has been located, but Ho says the JRCC is only dealing with the search efforts and couldn’t elaborate on what information may have been provided by the agency, other than to say they’re “actively searching for a person.”

Searchers are focusing on the section of English Bay between Point Atkinson Lighthouse in West Vancouver and Lions Gate Bridge between Vancouver and North Vancouver.
