Intending CAO applicants exploring their college options are often overwhelmed by the choices on offer. While the application form itself is very straightforward, the difficult part is narrowing down choices or finding courses that suit a candidate’s needs.
Students struggling to decide between two similar-sounding courses often ask me what should they do. For some courses the differences can be very subtle. So, thorough research should be carried out on all courses in which the applicant has an interest.
Research can be done through attending college open days, reading the college prospectus or website, talking to lecturers and current students etc. Candidates can also use the search engine on the CAO website using the ‘Courses’ tab. As well as researching the subjects on offer, students should consider work experience options and the college’s industry partners. What study abroad/Erasmus opportunities does the college offer? Do the facilities at the college…
