Neeva shuts down privacy search engine to focus on AI for business – Coywolf News
Sridhar Ramaswamy, ex-SVP of Ads at Google, and Vivek Raghunathan, ex-VP of Monetization at YouTube, started an ambitious project to build a better, more personalized search experience and convince users to ditch Google Search. In April 2021, Coywolf News published a first look at their new ad-free privacy search engine – still in private beta – called Neeva.
A few months later, Neeva was officially launched but struggled to gain traction. Even though they aggressively added new features and updates, including new LLM AI features, they couldn’t convince enough people to pay for their Google Search alternative. Less than two years after their launch, Ramaswamy and Raghunathan had to make the difficult decision to shut down Neeva.
On May 20, 2023, Ramaswamy emailed Neeva customers to notify them about Neeva shutting down. In the message, Ramaswamy blamed the ultra-competitive landscape and difficulty in educating users about why their solution was better and worth switching. He said…
