The premise of the speech stemmed from his opposition to a statement made by a member opposite suggesting that people should make their decisions and form their opinions by listening to experts and following their recommendations.
He began by saying that we don’t have to look very far to discover expertise – it’s often right in front of our noses.
He cited that someone in an oil-stained shirt was an expert able to disassemble and reassemble an engine. Or a farmer is versed in the varied aspects of ability to get food from farm to fork. Or a tradesman is able to perform any number of tasks that help make our lives easier and better.
He emphasized many ordinary abilities of ordinary people and labelled them as extraordinary – even genius.
