Local Gatotkaca Search Engine ‘Costly’ to Develop, Says Kominfo – Tempo.co English

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Communications and Information (Kominfo) Minister Johnny G. Plate on Monday detailed the plan to develop a domestically-made search engine dubbed Gatotkaca, which he said was unable to be developed currently as the cost and technology needed to develop it is difficult and expensive.

He did not explain how long or how much it would cost Indonesia to help develop its own search engine. “The development is more difficult and expensive,” said Johnny at his office, Central Jakarta, on Monday, August 8, 2022.

He said to maintain independence, ideally, a country should have a search engine. He gave an example of several countries that have search engines, such as the United States, China, Russia, and France.

However, Johnny believed one day Indonesia will have its own search engine. “Currently we have not prepared it because indeed we have time and money so far, we have been paying more attention to dealing with COVID-19,” he said.
