Debt ceiling the ‘most pressing’ issue for US Senate, says Dianne Feinstein

Dianne Feinstein used her first public statement since returning to the Senate from a months-long absence to stress that the upper house of Congress’s most pressing issue is sorting out the US government’s borrowing limit.

The 89-year-old senator from California returned to Washington on Tuesday to resume her senate duties, but it still recovering from “medical complications” related to shingles. She was initially diagnosed with the virus in late February and was hospitalised in early March.

Of the issues the Senate is dealing with, Feinstein said in her statement on Wednesday that “the most pressing is to ensure our government doesn’t default on its financial obligations.” She said she also looked forward to resuming her work on the Judiciary Committee.
