With the arrival of so-called generative AI, such as OpenAI’s endlessly amusing and problem-riddled ChatGPT, the decades long slow-roll of AI advancement has felt more like a quantum leap forward. That perceptive jump has some experts worried about the consequences of moving too quickly toward a world dominated by machine intelligence in which human beings—the line of thinking goes—will be supplanted.
