IDs of Headlands plane crash victims withheld until families notified – The Mercury News

The two persons killed in the crash of a small airplane in the Marin Headlands have been identified, but their names are being withheld until the next of kin is notified, the Marin County Coroner Division said Saturday.

A fixed-wing single engine Vans RV-10 personal aircraft crashed into the hillside of the Marin Headlands at approximately 12:09 p.m. Friday near Slackers Hill located northwest of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Marin Sheriff’s Office said. The airplane’s emergency beacon was activated at approximately 12:11 p.m. Multiple emergency agencies were dispatched to complete a search for the aircraft in the area where the emergency beacon had been activated.

At approximately 2 p.m., the downed aircraft was located on a steep hillside north of Conzelman Road away from the roadway and trails. Two people were located within the wreckage and declared deceased at the scene. Locating the aircraft was hampered by heavy fog and condensation, which obscured visibility in the area.
