n recent years, government officials and industry leaders alike have become concerned with the prevelance of misinformation on the internet, created and spread through various technological means.
Internet gatekeepers are now considering new ways to ensure users can trust online content as misinformation and disinformation continue to spread.
Google has announced two features to help people establish which pictures are real and which are algorithmically generated. The About This Image tool will allow users to see where a photo originates or has been sourced while the search engine will add markups to the original files, clearly labelling them as AI-generated if that is the case.
Meanwhile, social media sites are being encouraged to add “trust” and “distrust” buttons to help users flag potentially harmful content. A study by researchers from University College London found it could lead to a reduction in the amount of incorrect information shared.
