Google workers sign petition demanding bosses stop collecting data on abortion searches – Daily Mail
Hundreds of Google employees are petitioning the company to increase the privacy of those searching for abortion access online, and to extend its abortion healthcare benefits to contract workers.
More than 650 Google staff have signed a letter from the Alphabet Workers’ Union, sent this week to CEO Sundar Pichai and other Alphabet executives, seeking fresh promises.
The employees’ petition said the company should also institute immediate data privacy controls for all health-related activity, including abortion information, so that it ‘must never be saved, handed over to law enforcement, or treated as a crime.’
They want Google to take action to block advertisements that misleadingly direct users to anti-abortion ‘pregnancy crisis’ centers, when they are searching for abortion providers.
The signatories demand that Google stop working with ‘publishers of disinformation’ who make ‘unreliable and harmful claims about a major health crisis’.
