Google proposes to change search deals amid antitrust scrutiny – Tech in Asia

Google has proposed adjustments to its default search engine agreements with Apple and other partners in response to a United States antitrust ruling that deemed the company’s dominance in online search unlawful.

The proposal, submitted Friday, suggests modifying distribution agreements.

However, it does not fully address the broader remedies sought by the US Department of Justice (DOJ). US District Judge Amit Mehta identified these agreements as providing Google with significant advantages over competitors, resulting in the pre-installation of Google Search on most US devices.

Google suggested making these agreements non-exclusive and allowing browser developers, who choose Google as their default search engine, to reconsider their decision yearly.
