Google marks The Great Gama’s birth anniversary with doodle – United News of India

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Google on Sunday decorated its search engine with the doodle art of Wrestler Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt, popularly known as ‘The Great Gama’, on his 144th birth anniversary.

Gama, who also commonly known as Rustam-e-Hind, was born on May 22, 1878, in Amritsar.

The celebrating doodle art, wherein the wrestler can be seen standing holding his ‘gada’, was created by Google’s guest artist Vrinda Zaveri.

Gama’s success in wrestling competitions gained him fame throughout the states of India.

He earned many titles during his career, notably the Indian versions of the World Heavyweight Championship in 1910 and the World Wrestling Championship in 1927 where he was bestowed with the title of ‘Tiger’ after the tournament. He was even presented a silver mace by the Prince of Wales during his visit to India to honor the great wrestler.
