Google Illegally Maintains Monopoly over Internet Search, Judge Rules – Pragativadi

Washington: A United States judge decreed that Google had breached antitrust laws by spending billions to illegally monopolize and become the default search engine globally.

This pivotal verdict represents a significant triumph for federal authorities challenging the supremacy of Big Tech. The decision paves the way for a subsequent trial to decide on possible remedies, which could include dismantling Alphabet, Google’s parent company.

Judge Amit Mehta determined that Google dominates approximately 90 per cent of the online search market and 95 per cent of the mobile search market.

“Google is a monopolist and has behaved as such to preserve its monopoly,” wrote Judge Amit Mehta of the US district court in Washington, DC.
