STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — If you used Google to search for information and clicked on those results from 2006 to 2013, you may be eligible for money from a class action lawsuit.
A proposed settlement of consolidated class action lawsuits was filed against Google related to Google search queries, claiming that Google improperly shared users’ search queries with third-party websites and companies during a specific time period. The settlement would resolve the legal claims in the lawsuit against Google.
Google denies the claims and the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing.
Under the settlement, Google will pay $23 million to make payments to class members who file claims, payments to class representatives, attorneys’ fees, litigation costs, and settlement administration costs related to the settlement. Google will also revise its “FAQs” and “Key Terms” webpages regarding how and when search queries may be disclosed to third parties via referrer headers.
