Elyria Schools: Public looks inside five new buildings – The Morning Journal

Ely Elementary School opened its doors to students in the fall of 2020.

But because of the pandemic, not much of the public has been able to tour the building or any of the four new schools in Elyria that opened while COVID was shutting so much down.

All that changed on April 2, as the district opened the doors at Ely, 312 Gulf Road, and its other buildings for open houses.

It’s a wide-open one-floor layout that features two playgrounds, a gym, and a cafeteria/auditorium.

“The building itself is very warm, it’s very inviting. Kids love being here,” said Ely principal Brandon Easton.

It’s also loaded with technology, with screens and speakers sprinkled throughout the colorful, well-lit and open floor plan.

Approximately 430 students attend the school.

“This is the first year they’ve all been able to enjoy the building,” Easton said.

It opened in the fall of 2020 but did so on a hybrid basis with some students opting to remote lean while others were in the building.
