Does brick-and-mortar still matter for mattress purchases? Survey says yes – Furniture Today
BUFFALO, N.Y. – While its no secret that consumers begin their mattress shopping journey online, a 2022 sleep survey conducted by Restonic Mattress Corp. and Women’s Choice found that three-fifths of female consumers rely on brick-and-mortar retailers to experience a mattress before buying.
The survey asked nearly 330 women – evenly divided among Millennials, Gen Xers and Baby Boomers – about changing sleep habits during the pandemic and recent mattress buying experience. Close to 60% of respondents reported visiting a store to see and feel the mattress in person before buying it – giving brick-and-mortar stores a competitive edge ahead of digital-only players.
As for sleep quality over the last couple of years, women between the ages of 18 and 29 (42%) and those aged 45 to 60 (35%) suffered the most. And when it comes to replacing their mattress, 70% of respondents say comfort was their primary motivator, even above price (56%) and free delivery (30%).
