Amid the wildfire-driven chaos happening in British Columbia, BC’s Premier is calling on the owners of large social media platforms to allow Canadian news.
David Eby says the safety of thousands of Canadian citizens should trump the point that media giants are trying to make.
“Mr. Zuckerberg, open up access to Canadian media, so that British Columbians can share critical local information so they can be safe. It’s incredibly frustrating to me that we have to be making this call at this stage in the crisis, but I hope common sense prevails there,” Eby said Monday at a wildfire update news conference.
Meanwhile, there are 386 wildfires burning across BC, and 14 of them are of note. There are 3500 personnel engaged in fighting these fires, and the province is expecting 300 more coming from Mexico and South Africa in the coming days.
