The giant search engine Google celebrates International Earth Day, through real time lapse imagery doodles on its home page, aimed to highlight effects on climate change.

Earth Day that is normally commemorated on April 22 Annually, the Google doodle shows scenes of different locales across our planet, including Glaciers retreat at the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

For the Mt. Kilimanjaro time lapse, when clicked, shows the disappearing glaziers that were part of an Ice cap at the summit of Kilimanjaro from 1996 to 2020.

“Notice the change from the snow-covered peaks to barren land. Nearly 85 per cent of the glazier has disappeared in the past century,” reads the scene view description in parts.

The other real time lapse shows melted glazier in the Sermersooq in Greenland for a period of a year in 2020, the description notes, the melting of the ice sheets has directly contributed to global sea level rise. Warming temperature has further accelerated the melting of the…
