Arkansas attorney general says court’s ruling against Google Search “a win” for Arkansas – Arkansas Online
Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin pledged to “push forward” after a federal judge ruled Google Search was an illegal monopoly.
U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta ruled Monday that Google’s search engine had violated the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, handing a victory to coalition of 14 states, including Arkansas, and the U.S. Department of Justice that sued the tech giant.
In a statement Tuesday, Griffin called the court’s ruling “a win for Arkansans and should send a message to all businesses that unlawful and unfair practices will not be tolerated.”
The U.S. Department of Justice argued Google Search acted as an illegal monopoly, entering into exclusive contracts with mobile providers and smart phones making it the default search engine on many platforms. Additionally, the Department of Justice said Google was able to use its market dominance to then charge more to advertise on its search engine, according to The Associated Press.
