Alphabet union wants contractor abortion benefits post-Roe v Wade – San Francisco Chronicle

More than 650 workers at Alphabet, Google’s parent company, have signed a letter addressed to the company’s leadership demanding contractors be given the same abortion benefits as full-time employees in the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, said the union which represents around 1,100 people at the company.

The letter posted on Twitter demands the company increase travel reimbursements and apply them to all workers, give them all a minimum additional seven days of sick time and publish a report on how well outside vendors are complying with those standards in the U.S. The group also demanded changes to the company’s lobbying practices as well as changes to its search engine and products to protect data and search privacy for people seeking reproductive health care.

Google did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
