Vadodara: Found a suitable resort for your getaway plans? Book, but with caution as there are chances that the online phone numbers may have been doctored by cyber crooks who would merrily ‘getaway’ with your money!
A group of fraudsters have begun targeting tourists searching to book hotels online, warned Hardik Makadia, ACP (cybercrime). The cybercrime sleuths have received nearly eight such complaints in the last one month in Vadodara.
“This gang employs an innovative method to dupe without creating fake websites. They hack into the Google page and change the contact number or the email id provided on the search engine platform. People searching for hotels or resorts usually dial the number provided on the Google page,” Makadia told TOI.
Once the crooks get a call on the number they had uploaded, they pose as staff of the hotel and provide the caller with some information about the place.
“They then ask the tourist to deposit the booking amount in the bank account number…
