Airlines At Dublin Airport To Receive Discount For Adopting ‘Low … – Travel Wires
Dublin Airport Operator DAA announced a new incentive program to encourage airlines that operate aircraft with lower CO2 emissions.
Airports plan to offer airlines that fly more efficient aircraft “low emission discounts” on aeronautical fees, while “high emissions” aircraft operators will be charged higher charges.
DAA announced that it would “shortly begin consultation” on the plan, which includes a new 25% discount on all charges on the runway for airlines using the “most environmentally-friendly aircraft at any time of day”. The airport is hoping that the new incentive-based program will be implemented within the next six month.
This is the latest step in DAA’s environmental charging policy, which already includes higher charges for airlines that operate noisier aircraft during nighttime hours.
DAA stated that it expects carriers to receive discounts totaling more than EUR30,000,000 on published charges in this year, with Ryanair and Aer Lingus “receiving the largest share”.
