Lucknow: Hailing from Etawah, Samir was five years old when one evening, he lost his way to home. He was a rag-picker crying for help on an empty stomach, when a kind man alerted police. Cops took him to an Agra-based children’s shelter home where the child spend half a decade with other such kids.
While he was growing up, his devastated parents had been hoping against hope to find him again. Their prayers were finally answered recently when a twist of fate united the family. During a special drive to enrol destitute children in Aadhaar, Samir’s biometric details reflected ‘duplication’. Authorities retrieved his original Aadhaar details and based on the address mentioned, the hunt for Samir’s home began. Within days, his parents were located, much to the joy of the family. Samir was among the 44 minors from various shelter homes in Uttar Pradesh whose biometric details reflected “second attempt” or “duplication” in the UIDAI system.
