4 residents displaced, 3 cats dead after Savannah fire on W 47th Street – fox28media.com

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTGS) — Savannah firefighters are responding to a structure fire on West 47th Street Monday night.

Firefighters said there was heavy smoke coming out of the front of a single-story home and flames coming from a rear bedroom.

They quickly extinguished the blaze, preventing the flames from extending throughout the home but the home sustained heavy smoke damage, according to the Savannah Fire Dept.

The four residents escaped and two of them suffered smoke inhalation but refused medical treatment, the department said. They added that four cats were trapped inside the burning building. They said they rescued one of them but three cats did not survive.

All four residents were displaced and the Red Cross was called to assist them.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
