19-year-old loses ₹1.3L to online scamster – Times of India
Thane: A 19-year-old college student was duped by an online scamster who impersonated a bank employee by posting fake customer care numbers on a search engine and fraudulently siphoned Rs 1.3 lakh from her account.
The victim who lives with her aunt in Tulsidham area told the police that she had mistakenly blocked her debit card thinking that she had lost it. When her father advised her to reactivate the card, she tried to call a toll free number but it was not reachable.
The student then searched for the bank’s customer care number online and found one. However, when she tried the number it was switched off. The victim later received a call from another number who told her that he would help her. The caller asked her to download AnyDesk application. She followed the instruction and received a 10-digit number on her mobile phone which she refused to share. But after a while she got many text messages that a total of Rs 1.3 lakh had been withdrawn from her bank accounts.
